November CCS Friday – Why First Advent Requires a Second Advent

November CCS Friday – Why First Advent Requires a Second Advent

“Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken and one will be left.” – Matthew 24:40-41

On Friday, November 18, 2022 at noon (Winnipeg time) we hosted an online discussion of lectionary readings for the first Sunday in Advent. These passages, especially those in Matthew, have often been interpreted as speaking of rapture and the Second Coming of Christ. What does that have to do with Advent??

Our special guest was Dan Epp-Tiessen, biblical scholar and semi-retired professor at the Canadian Mennonite University. To explain the connection between “first advent” and “second advent” he suggested thinking of the Bible as a play in six-acts.

CCS Fridays:
Online conversations to help us all to respond faithfully to emerging issues in local contexts. These workshops are open to anyone who might be interested. Each session will be on a Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 CT and in the form of a Zoom workshop. There will be a presentation that will be recorded for future viewing, plus opportunities to engage with the ideas in small groups.
