What’s a motto with you?

Last week we had our first online Praxis gathering of the new school year. (“Praxis” is a part of the CCS program that runs all year and focuses on theological reflection, diaconal mentoring, and intentional learning in community. Most of our students take it each year, so when the Praxis cohort meet online, it’s essentially a gathering of the CCS student body.) The fall gathering is an opportunity to meet new students, reconnect with old friends, and commit ourselves to a new year of learning.

As part of introductions, we asked each student to choose a motto, slogan, or mantra for the year. What’s going to inspire you or keep you grounded? What will you need to remind yourself of when the going gets tough? Here are some of their offerings:

  • Embrace the unexpected
  • Joy is an act of resistance
  • Trust what’s becoming
  • One more step along the way
  • Keep to-do lists
  • Breathe in and out regularly
  • Love, support, enjoy
  • Build a bridge between communities
  • Participate, reflect, integrate, breathe and repeat
  • Vengeance is not a ministry of the church
  • Great googly moogly!
  • I don’t gotta do this alone
  • in de Nile no more
  • Don’t die
  • Survive
  • Just keep swimming
  • Good enough
  • You can do it, so just do it
  • Yes, and…
  • Enjoy

How about you? Do any of these resonate with you? What words or phrase do you pull out when you need to remember who you are and what you’re for? (Share in the comments, if you feel inspired.)
