Spring 2021 Continuing Studies Opportunities
Tired of making sourdough bread? Given up on learning the ukulele? Watched everything on Netflix? This may be the perfect time to reflect on your calling or deepen your leadership skills or explore a topic you’re passionate about or reconnect with learning in community.
In other words, this may be the time for continuing studies at the Centre for Christian Studies.
Continuing Studies students can take CCS learning circles on a casual basis, either for credit or audit. They learn side-by-side with students in the diaconal ministries program. Of course, this spring all the “side-by-sides” are zoom windows. If you’ve been curious about the Centre for Christian Studies but haven’t wanted to or been able to travel to Winnipeg, this is the year for you! All of our spring and summer circles will be online.
Want to learn more about the Bible as a complicated, challenging, and transformative text? Want to enliven your Bible studies and trouble the waters of your scriptural knowledge? The Living Scripture intensive – April 14-21 – might be for you.
Wondering how to help people in the heavy times, especially this year when so many are touched by death while the regular patterns of grieving are disrupted? Seeking to more deeply understand your own losses and the losses of others? The Grief and Loss intensive – April 28 to May 5 – has a place for you.
Do you want to strengthen your community? Curious how you can make a difference? Wondering what you can do as a leader, or how to step up to a leadership position, in order to bring people together in healthy and empowering ways? (Does the word “intensive” in the previous two paragraphs intimidate you?) Ministry as Community-building is an online learning circle that meets twice weekly over six weeks from May 11 to June 17.
Finally, Learning on Purpose is a sampler plate of leadership development, group facilitation, theology, spiritual care, education, and social justice. It’s also a master class in learning-in-community. If you’re wanting to boost your leadership skills, discern your spiritual calling, deepen your analysis, pick up some new tools, or begin a journey towards being a diaconal minister, this is for you. And this year it’s online from August 16 to 27! We’re busy figuring out how best to adapt this two-week intensive to an online format that will still be fun, engaging, inspiring, creative, and transformative.
This is the year to Reseed, Rejuvenate, and Reconnect.
