March CCS Friday – Addiction and Faith

March CCS Friday – Addiction and Faith

On Friday, March 31, 2023 we hosted an online discussion of addiction ministry. Our special guest was be Ed Treat from the Centre of Addiction and Faith. Ed believes churches are poised to make a dent in the opioid crisis because they have locations in tiny rural communities that may not have other local supports like a doctor or social worker available in town.  He helped us explore the scope for developing an addiction ministry team that takes actions such as providing resources on addiction in libraries, getting narcan training, and training people to support those living with or recovering from addiction.  We had a chance to explore addiction and recovery in a Biblical text.

The Centre of Addiction and Faith is committed to helping ministers and leaders learn how faith communities can better understand addiction, and to better address the spiritual needs of those afflicted. There are so many who need spiritual care, and faith communities can do so much more to help.

CCS Fridays:
Online conversations to help us all to respond faithfully to emerging issues in local contexts.  These workshops are open to anyone who might be interested. Each session will be on a Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 (Winnipeg time) and in the form of a Zoom workshop.  There will be a presentation that will be recorded for future viewing, plus opportunities to engage with the ideas in small groups.
