New Scholarship

New Scholarship

CCS introduced a new award this year – the Patricia Alexander Grant Scholarship.

Patricia Alexander Grant enjoyed a long career as a high school teacher and guidance counsellor in Collingwood, Ontario, volunteered in her local community, and was an active member of Trinity United Church. She had a rare ability to see the whole person and to know this could strengthen them to be and become their best self – no matter how society and/or life had treated them. Patricia died in 2022.

Friends of Patricia have created a scholarship at the Centre for Christian Studies to honour Patricia’s gift of relationship and support to the many she helped throughout her lifetime. The Patricia Alexander Grant Scholarship is a $2000 annual scholarship for a current CCS student who is in financial need, with particular consideration given for a student who is Black, Indigenous, a Person of Colour/racialized, Two-Spirit, LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, plus), or who lives with a disability.

Patricia’s passion for justice and her choices for activism supported and inspired countless students and other individuals, especially when they were facing adversity or injustice.  Her faith informed everything she did.  Patricia’s awareness of the Divine in humanity and creation made her a dedicated advocate for human rights and for ecological sustainability.

There is no application process for the scholarship; recommendations are made by CCS Program Staff. This new scholarship was approved by the Awards Working Group, and has been awarded to a deserving student for the 2022-2023 school year.
