Theme Learning Circles 2022-2023

Theme Learning Circles 2022-2023

We are looking forward to a return to in-person learning circles in 2022-2023, starting with the Learning on Purpose course in London, Ontario in June. October learning circles and April learning circles will be in Winnipeg, Manitoba. For those who really enjoy online learning, we will also have online circles in January/February and May/June.

Planning ahead for your continuing education? All of these learning circles can be taken as part of our Continuing Studies program, for clergy and laypeople who want to explore these topics in a creative and supportive learning community.

Ready to follow that call into Diaconal Ministry? All of these learning circles can be taken as part of the Diaconal Ministries diploma program or as part of a certificate program. Apply today to begin your journey.

June 13-25, 2022 is Learning on Purpose, our 2-week master class on learning in community. This is a great introduction to the Centre for Christian Studies and to the diaconal themes of social justice, spiritual care, and education. This year it will be in London, ON.

October 12-18, 2022 will be Ministry as Community-building. Healthy community can be both the goal and the path to social justice. This week-long intensive will explore the challenges and the joys of community and the role of the church in creating and maintaining healthy and just communities.

October 20-26, 2022 is Health, Pain, and Trauma. This week-long intensive will explore how to be present for people who are suffering, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and how to support resilience through spiritual care.

January 10 to February 16, 2023 will be Living Scripture. How do we live in relationship to scripture, and how do we recognize scripture as a living thing in need of interpretation and reinterpretation? This six-week, two session a week online learning circle will explore practical approaches to Bible study and new ways of looking at old stories.

April 12-18, 2023 is Worship. This week-long intensive is an exploration of worship ministry, sacraments, and preaching. A great learning opportunity for anyone who finds themselves leading worship.

April 20-26, 2023 will be Right Relations. In the past we have offered this week-long intensive in collaboration with the Sandy-Saulteaux Spiritual Centre, and we hope to again. This circle seeks a vision of just, mutual, respectful, and healing relationship between Indigenous and Settler peoples in Canada.

May 9 to June 15, 2023 is Ministry as Listening. The power of deep, empathetic listening can be transformative. This is another six-week, two session a week online learning circle exploring some of the fundamental skills of spiritual care.
