February CCS Friday – Here from the Beginning
The United Church of Canada celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, and from its beginning Black people have been an active and significant part of the church’s history.
On Friday, February 27, 2026 CCS hosted an online discussion with Paul Douglas Walfall. Paul is a minister at Pilgrim United Church in Edmonton and an organizer of the “Here from the Beginning” exhibition highlighting the often overlooked contributions and experiences of Black people in the UCC. He reflects on some of the challenges of bringing together an exhibition like this, and the need to decolonize United Church history in order to get more rounded perspective.
The “Here From the Beginning” exhibition will be visiting various regions of the United Church of Canada over the next year. (See the exhibition website for an up-to-date schedule.) It will be in the Shining Waters United Church Region and East Central Ontario United Church Region in April and May, 2026. It will be in the Canadian Shield Region in June, Chinook Winds in July, Pacific Mountain in August, the prairie regions in the fall.

CCS Fridays: Online conversations to help us all to respond faithfully to emerging issues in local contexts. These workshops are open to anyone who might be interested. Each session will be on a Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 CT and in the form of a Zoom workshop. There will be a presentation that will be recorded for future viewing, plus opportunities to engage with the ideas in small groups.
