16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2023
For the third year, DOTAC (DIAKONIA of the Americas and the Caribbean) will be participating in the international “16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.”
The 16 days run from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day). The campaign was started by activists at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ individuals.
DOTAC’s 16-day calendar (see below) has suggested activities for each of the days, including some online Bible studies and discussions, including:
- Saturday, Nov 25 at 1pm CST – Rev. Marlene Britton, of Diakonia of The United Church of Canada, will facilitate using resources from the Church of Scotland and the United Church of Canada.
- Friday, Dec 1 at noon CST – Sister Kriss Buss, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Deacon and member of the ELCA Deaconess Community, will lead using excerpts from Hand In Hand Bible Studies to Transform Our Response to Sexual Violence
- Sunday, Dec 10 at 3pm CST – Rev. Deacon Tracie Middleton, Association for Episcopal Deacons, will guide us through some of the material from the Tamar Campaign
