CCS’s new Interim Principal – Marcie Gibson

CCS’s new Interim Principal – Marcie Gibson

The Centre for Christian Studies is pleased to announce that Marcie Gibson will be taking on the one-year position of Interim Principal for the Centre, beginning July 1st, 2024.

Marcie is a graduate of the Centre who has been a part-time member of CCS Program Staff since 2017, contributing to many parts of the program but especially working with students in their Integration Year. Marcie is well-grounded in the history, policies, and pedagogy of the Centre, as well as the structures and polity of the United Church and Anglican Church of Canada. Her experience with diaconal candidacy processes, her ongoing research into diaconal pedagogy, and her recent work on equity issues in the United Church will be an asset to the Centre. (And her background in bookkeeping and familiarity with financial administration won’t hurt!)

“We look forward to working with Marcie more directly,” said Gwen McAllister and Sadekie Lyttle-Forbes, Co-chairs of Central Council, “and are grateful that she will be sharing her gifts, skills, and wisdom with the Centre in this new way.”

Marcie will continue to be based in Hamilton, but as Interim Principal will make regular trips to Winnipeg to connect in-person with other staff and attend to office tasks. CCS staff are excited to work with Marcie in this new capacity.

This month Marcie will be co-facilitating the Learning on Purpose course in Ste Anne-de-Bellevue, Québec, along with CCS program staff member Alcris Limongi. In August, Marcie and Alcris will be co-facilitating the online UCC Admissions Orientation Circle for ministers coming into the United Church from other denominations. And in September she will be accompanying a new cohort of Integration Year students as they head into their final year of the Diaconal program.

Marcie says, “I am happy to be able to serve in this capacity during this interim period. I look forward to connecting with students, community, volunteers, Council, staff colleagues, networks, and donors, and am grateful for all the teaming we do together to be, support, and journey with CCS.”
