SUMMARY:Carmen Lansdowne Event
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-person book conversation with past UCC Moderator\, The Right Rev. Carmen Lansdowne on Thursday\, Nov. 6\, 2:00 PM (CST) at the United Church in Meadowood (1111 Dakota St) in Winnipeg. \nThe Indigenous intercultural theology proposed in Carmen’s new book\, Wearing a Broken Indigene Heart on the Sleeve of Christian Mission\, seeks to reframe many of the often unspoken assumptions about the field of Christian mission. Carmen searches out answers to the question: If Indigenous hearts are broken by Christian-ity\, what is in Christian theology that is life giving? Engage with Carmen as she talks through a constructive vision of mission – for us and for the world. \n“We must raise voices that offer a different and insistent Indigenous narrative to transform the understanding of Settlers. I am attempting to set the stage for a new relationship altogether. From that new relationship\, perhaps the church can be transformed as well as be transforming.” \n– Carmen Lansdowne \nThe Right Rev. Dr. Carmen Lansdowne was Moderator of the United Church of Canada from 2022 to 2025. In 2025\, Dr Landsdowne took a position on the faculty of Emmanuel College\, University of Toronto. Carmen is a member of the Heiltsuk First Nation. \nThis event is being hosted by CCS and a number of Winnipeg United Churches.

SUMMARY:CCS Friday - Unbounded Stories from Palestine
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Friday\, Nov 7 (10am Central\, 9am Mountain\, 8am Pacific\, 11am Eastern\, noon Atlantic)* for an online discussion on how stories rooted in land\, identity\, and community shape our sense of self and belonging. Our special guest will be Izzeddin Hawamda of the peace and anti-racism organization Sanaa. Through dialogue and shared reflection\, participants will engage with their own journeys and intersectional experiences while learning from one another. Together\, we will cultivate empathy\, strengthen connections\, and imagine new pathways toward healing and collective belonging. \n*Regular CCS Friday participants\, please note that the start time is two hours earlier than our usual. Izzy  is joining us from the West Bank\, so a bit earlier works better for his time zone. \nClick HERE to register for a Zoom link. \nCCS Fridays: Online conversations to help us all to respond faithfully to emerging issues in local contexts.  These workshops are open to anyone who might be interested. Sessions are usually on a Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 CT and in the form of a Zoom workshop.  There will be a presentation that will be recorded for future viewing\, plus opportunities to engage with the ideas in small groups.
