DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Christian Studies is excited to be offering a 2-day continuing education event with Cláudio Carvalhaes\nFriday\, April 14 and Saturday\, April 15\, 2023\nTo be able to laugh\, to have humor and to be foolish are all tremendous forms of resistance\, of showing love/compassion and affirming life in a time where depression\, anger\, sadness and disasters are mounting. This course follows a various resources engaging humor\, laughter and foolishness through play in worship and preaching forms. Together\, we will engage play as a fundamental way of living our faith and daily lives in our communities. \nWorkshop cost: $200 * \nHosted by The Centre for Christian Studies \nLocation: Westworth United Church\, 1750 Grosvenor Ave\, Winnipeg\, MB \nPublic presentation: “When Joy Came To Town” – Saturday\, April 15 at 7pm. \n(Download a poster. Email Scott at sdouglas@ccsonline.ca if you have questions. \nSchedule: \nFriday\, April 14 \n\n9:30-12:30 – Session 1\n2:00-5:00 – Session 2\n7:00-9:00 – Session 3\n\nSaturday\, April 15 \n\n9:30-12:30 – Session 4\n2:00-5:00 – Session 5\n7:00-9:00 – Public presentation “When Joy Came To Town” with Q&A\n\nCláudio Carvalhaes is an Associate Professor of Worship at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. A much sought after speaker\, writer\, performer\, and consultant\, Dr. Carvalhaes has preached at Wild Goose Festival\, Festival of Homiletics\, Forum for Theological Education\, Child Defense Fund – Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry\, Academy of Homiletics and many other places. He has given lectures at the Liturgy Symposium Series at Yale Divinity School\, Princeton Theological Seminary\, the Buddhist-Christian Conference at Denison University\, the 7th Aasta Hansteen Lecture on Gender and Religion in Oslo\, Norway\, the Jubilee 800 Order of Preachers of the Dominican Order at the Vatican\, Italy\, Societas Liturgica in Belgium\, Liturgical Conference in Germany\, and the International Academy of Practical Theology in Brazil. He led worship for the All African Council of Churches in Mozambique\, taught at the Global Institute of Theology of the World Communion of Reformed Churches and leads worship and teaches at the Hispanic Summer Program since 2013. \nRecently he has been working on a global project called Re-Imagining Worship As Acts Of Defiance And Alternatives In The Context Of Empire. With a grant from the Council of World Mission\, he is leading a workshop on liturgy amidst the poor with scholars\, pastors and students in four continents: Asia\, Africa\, Americas and Europe. \nRead full bio. \n______ \n*”Humour\, Laughter\, Foolishness” is part of CCS’s Worship 2023 learning circle\, which runs from April 12 to April 18. Diaconal ministry students will be exploring the meaning of worship\, skills in preaching\, and the theology of sacraments. DESCRIPTION:Join the Centre for Christian Studies community on Saturday\, April 22\, for a feast as the graduates receive their diplomas and the 2023 Companion of the Centre\, Wenh-In Ng\, is introduced. This will be the first CCS banquet since 2019! \nGathering starts at 5:30 with dinner at 6:00. Location: St. George’s Anglican Church Crescentwood (168 Wilton Street\, Winnipeg) \nThe meal is catered by Urban Prairie Cuisine.  Tickets at $50.  ($25 for CCS students.) (We need to let the caterers know in advance\, so please book your tickets by April 8th.) \nThe day after the banquet\, April 23\, is the Annual Service of Celebration.  Come worship with the graduates and honour this year’s Companion of the Centre.
