We sang, we ate! Cookies and carols 2018

It’s always a joy to gather with friends, to share delights of the season and sing in community. As one person who missed this year’s gathering commented, “ I love coming to Cookies and Carols because we sing the less familiar carols.”  This year was no exception.  In fact, as people came and went, sometimes the same less common carol was requested twice.

North American carols like “No Crowded Eastern Street” (written by a Winnipeg musician) and “There’s a Star in the East”, annual favourite from Japan, “Sheep Fast Asleep”, and European “Still, Still, Still” were part of the wide-ranging repertoire which also included more usual carols.

This year’s musical guests were 11 year old twins, cellist Matthew and violinist Nadia, accompanied by their mother Leanne Lee on the piano.  They treated the gathered friends to carols played on strings as duets and piano solos, rounding off their offering with a playful version of “Jingle Bells”.  Of course, they also joined in the singing and the eating.

Those who were able to drop by experienced a place to pause, gather in faith-filled community, and participate in this annual ritual of Advent.

Oh yes, we also sang, “il est né, le divin Enfant”.  Joyeux noel to all.

Nadia, Matthew and their mother Leanne uplifted our singing this year with their ensemble.
