Second Fridays – Rob and Keiko Witmer
May 8, 2015 @ 12:00 am - 1:00 pm
The Sandy Saulteaux Spiritual Centre and the Centre for Christian Studies will be hosting Rob and Keiko Witmer for Second Fridays on May 8, 2015 from 12:00 to 1:00.
In keeping with our theme of building relationships, the Witmers will share their experience of Ainu Indigenous relations with the majority Japanese culture. The Ainu people are the aboriginal people of northern Japan, where Rob and Keiko have been United Church overseas personnel since 1969. They have been associated with a grouping of 10 tiny churches in northern Hokkaido through the the Dohoku Centre, a rural church centre which carries out programs related to issues of food, agriculture, and rural society. These churches are also in relationship with the Ainu Peoples Resource Centre which is working to be in solidarity with the Ainu in a variety of ways.
Following the Second Fridays presentation the Witmers have agreed to stay on to share with anyone who is interested, their work in the Dohoko Centre.
