Little Boxes

Little Boxes

(with apologies to Malvina Reynolds)

Little boxes, on the zoom screen
Little boxes made of pixels
Little boxes on the zoom screen, little boxes all the same
There’s a living room and a bookshelf and someone’s dog is barking
Little boxes, on the zoom screen, but the order’s not the same

And the people in the boxes all talk about diakonia
And we all are put in breakout rooms and we all have to click join
And we’ve all learned how to mute but we forget to unmute sometimes
And we’re all in little boxes, little boxes on the screen

And we zoom in from our bedrooms and our living rooms and our kitchens
And we bring our mugs of coffee and our dog’s barking again
In the background is someone’s partner, now the cat wants to sniff the webcam
And we’re all in little boxes, except for essential grocery trips

Little boxes, on the zoom screen
Little boxes made of pixels
Little boxes on the zoom screen, little boxes all the same
And we’re working and we’re learning, and we’re worshipping and we’re mourning
And our boxes are connected, not alone, thanks be to God

Love it. timely and profound, yet not taking itself too seriously. I’m thinking of using it for our opening prayer this Sunday – from my own little Zoom box…

  2. Helen Reed says:

    Love it! Well done 🙂
