VIDEOS – Cinq à Sept

What is a cinq à sept?  It is not, as emcee Robbie Scott thought, a mispronunciation of “sunken ship.”  Nor is it like a tea set but specifically for instant coffee.  (That would be a Sanka set.)

cinq à sept is a gathering that runs from 5pm to 7pm.  Such a gathering was held on Wednesday to pay tribute to Ted Dodd who is retiring this summer.  It was an entertaining, and occasionally zany, event, with snack, games, and speeches.  Here are some video highlights to give you a sense of what it was like, but of course, for some parts “you kind of had to be there.”

The presentation part of the evening started with a honour song, via video, from Japanese drum group Fubuki Daiko …

Robbie Scott served as emcee and kept the audience laughing.  He even had them playing a Ted-based version of BINGO.

Greetings were brought from Manitoba & Northwestern Ontario Conference, Winnipeg Presbytery, and St. James-Bond United where Ted served as a Staff Associate in the late 70s…

Maylanne Maybee introduced the Ted Dodd Fund for Leadership…

A gift was presented on behalf of the CCS Central Council and a book was given to Ted with pages contributed by friends far and wide…

At the end of the evening, Ted said a few words of thanks…

The evening was organized by CCS with support from many of Ted’s friends, especially Caryn Douglas, Anne Duncan, Yvonne Naismith, Irene Rainey, and Lori Stewart.  Thank you to everyone who came and to everyone who sent best wishes.

Ted, you have shaped so many in so many ways and all for the good.

You are a light, leader, a joy and a friend.
