A Theology of Resistance

HyeRan Kim-Cragg, a professor of pastoral studies at St. Andrew’s College in Saskatoon, was the recipient of the Emma Kaufman Scholarship in 2012.  (The Emma Kaufman Scholarship, established in 1945, is awarded to a woman with a commitment to a theology of social justice, for the purpose of extended study outside of North America. )

HyeRan’s project involves work on a theology of resistance in the context of global capitalism where the life of indigenous people and their land are violated due to the mining.  Her work began with study engagement in Guatemala with local activists, meeting with Christian leaders, and exposure trips.   The paper on a theology of resistance will form the groundwork for collaborating with others in Korea and the Philippines on resources for congregational education, as well as for courses for young Asian leaders in the Philippines and Korea while she is on sabbatical.  No doubt, it will appear in her teaching here in Canada as well.

HyeRan has completed her visit to Guatemala and has been assembling her thoughts on a theology of resistance.  She has generously shared her reflections with CCS.  To read the complete paper, click here.
