Keeping CCS at the Growing Edges

Keeping CCS at the Growing Edges

A letter to CCS’s friends and supporters from Development Coordinator Lori Stewart:

You keep the Centre for Christian Studies at the growing edges

Only if you reach the boundary will the boundary recede before you. And if you don’t, if you confine your efforts, the boundary will shrink to accommodate itself to your efforts. And you can only expand your capacities by working to the very limit.
– Hugh Nibley

These wise words were not only motivating for my doctoral studies, but have continued to echo in my mind when I start to think that something is beyond my capability.

I see our students putting these words into action on a daily basis as they stretch: witnessing to Jesus’ way in a secular world, struggling to complete assignments on time, challenging themselves to balance work and self-care. The Central Council is putting together a Strategic Plan that will help us grow as a place of learning responsive to the needs of a changing church. You are making all of this possible.

Carolynne and Jim - welcome to ASC

Jim and Carolynne

One month ago we sent out our fall appeal letter in which our co-chairs, Carolynne and Jim, invited you to support our students with a donation to CCS.

I already see ways in which you, our friends and supporters, are stretching the growing edges of your giving:

  • some people are moving to monthly giving through Pre-Authorized Remittance
  • some of you are increasing your gift through PAR
  • some of you are new donors
  • many of you have given generously to sustain the students who bring what they are learning to the people they serve in ministry

To those who have already responded I want to say a big thank you.

chequebookIf you haven’t yet sent your gift, it’s not too late. There is still time to get it in before the end of the year to receive a tax-deductible receipt.

If, for some reason, you did not receive the letter and would like to, please call 204-783-4490 or e-mail us at info@ccsonline.ca so we can update your contact information.

And Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Lori Stewart, Development Coordinator

Thank you so much Scott for this. Now I am into my third Christmas in active ministry and getting further away from my CCS roots, it is wonderful to reconnect with idea’s shared from a Diaconal point of view. I am slowly becoming comfortable bringing my Diaconal focus to my congregations and this newsletter gives me all kinds of insights to consider. May the blessings of the baby ever being reborn again in our hearts be with all of your. Mary Elizabeth
